Undoubtedly, an innovative out-of-the-box idea could launch your business off the ground. As avid entrepreneurs at heart, the majority of us are out there searching for “the next greatest thing since the sliced bread.” Once we get that idea to the start-up business level, one of the main factors in the success of any business is building an invincible team of talented and enthusiastic people, who has ‘it’ in their bones to be able to carry out that idea and make it soar.
If you look at some of the most successful entrepreneurs, rarely do they attribute their success to their own geniuses alone. It is in a “we” format that they explain the phenomenon of their unprecedented levels of ingenuity. For any start up business that is bound to reach the highest levels of success, the creation and the development of the team, is as water to fish. Here are some of the suggested techniques and principles that successful business entrepreneurs utilize in shaping the attributes of their own dream-teams.
1. Identify the key role players that could make your business venture a success.
Knowing exactly what your business needs in order to take off is essential. Stick to the most important factors, your must-have requirements, without which you can not launch. Identify the elements of the business that you personally not strong at, or have a limited experience with. After that, start searching for professional attributes that could fill in those gaps.
2. Assess each team member’s strengths and weaknesses.
Make a list of individuals who you already know, trust, and hopefully, would like to commit to your business venture. It would be an ideal situation, to have those few trustworthy individuals join your team, as your partners and confidantes. They would be the ones that you could lean on, and would never dump you, should things go astray at times (think of it, as a happy marriage). Those are the people you would reward the most, once the prosperity and success come your way!

3. A continuous training for the team is a backbone of your overall success. Encourage your team to educate themselves, and set an example yourself, as the leader. Knowledge is power! Providing effective resources through seminars, literature, webinars, guest speakers, and certifications, are just a few to consider.
4. Keep building your team one block at a time.
By way of trial and error, through positive and negative experiences, focus on shaping your team, make it your priority. Providing perpetual performance reviews, including ‘360 reviews’ (means being open to ideas and constructive criticism from your own team), is something that you as a leader should be actively engaged in on a consistent basis. There are lots of team development theories and exercises out there. Here is a link that outlines some of them. http://ping.fm/uLauy
5. And finally, reward your team!
Create an environment where people run, not walk to work! Happy team is a loyal team. By the same token, a loyal team is the one that brings you success.
